Termites are eusocial insects. Termites live in colonies that, at maturity, number from several hundred to several million individuals. Termites communicate during a variety of behavioral activities with signals. Colonies use decentralised, self-organised systems of activity guided by swarm intelligence which exploit food sources and environments unavailable to any single insect acting alone. A typical colony contains nymphs (semimature young), workers, soldiers, and reproductive individuals of both genders, sometimes containing several egg-laying queens.  Kill the queen, kill the colony.  In the spring, winged termites leave the central nest in swarms to create a new colonies. These swarming time for nest typically lasts less than an hour.  So infestation goes very quickly. The winged termites themselves look quite a bit like flying ants so they are often mistaken for as ants.  If untreated, termites can devastate an entire house very quickly.
