5 of the Most Popular Cookie Flavors

Chocolate chip cookies are as American as baseball and apple pie, and bakers like David's Cookies and Mrs. Fields know it. That's why they sell way more than just one type of cookie. Everyone has different tastes and preferences when it comes to sweets, so they bake a treat for every person. If you're trying to buy a good selection of cookies, then you should probably understand a thing or two about the most popular flavors out there. Here is a countdown of five favorites.

1. Chocolate Chip

This is the most classic and iconic of all American cookies. This is a blend of white and brown sugars, flour and chocolate chips. The sweet taste is often experimented with by bakers. You can find M&Ms, Hershey Kisses and basic chocolate chunks in the recipe to mix up the batter. The cookie's texture is simple to alter. Simply add or subtract the amount of flour to create a very crunchy or a very chewy baked good.

2. White Chocolate Macadamia Nut

This cookie offers a bit of the tropics blended into an American icon. The dough is the same as a standard chocolate chip, but white chocolate morsels are substituted and Hawaiian Macadamia nuts are added to the mix. This gives the baked good a surprise crunch and an excuse to write the treat off as healthy.

3. Peanut Butter

Here's another way sweets can be made from health foods! A peanut butter cookie uses sugar, flour and a lot of peanut butter to create a soft yet crunchy treat. Often defined by the lines pressed into the top of the treat before baking, sometimes these come with peanut butter chips or even chocolate chips to make a diverse taste.

4. Oatmeal Raisin

A blend of whole oats and sweet raisins make this one that seems almost like an excuse to pig out healthy style. These crumble into small pieces easily and are naturally sweet. These cookies are generally very oft and chewy, not the best on the tray for milk dipping. For an extra calorie splurge, look for ones that also feature chocolate chips.

5. Iced Sugar

A favorite cookie around the holidays, iced sugar cookies are almost as fun to make and decorate as they are to eat. Don't let the name mislead you; often sugar cookies are less sweet than other alternatives. What makes these special is the fact that they can be rolled out and cut into fun designs by using a metal cutter. Then, after these bake, they can be iced in any way you want. This allows for a customized cookie that is fun to make and even more fun to eat.

Don't worry if the five favorites above still won't meet the needs of everyone in your organization. There are still many more varieties of tasty treats including macaroons, snickerdooles and cinnamon cookies.
